Leg 4 - In-town races in Szczecin, 26.07.2008
Eight teams, whose catamarans did not suffer any big damage during the offshore race, started the fight for next points in the general classification. Szczecin welcomed the sailors with hot and sunny weather and a light, squally North wind. In these conditions on Odra River at the bottom of Wa³y Chrobrego, 8 catamarans fighted in 6 extremely spectacular races.
First two races were around the Grodzka Island, next four - up and down races between Grodzka Island and the Wa³y Chrobrego. The participating catamarans presented themselves brilliantly in the town scenery of Szczecin. They gave at the same time a show of spectacular and gripping competition.
Again the Dutch team Coen de Koning / Jeroen van Leeuwen showed their class winning 5 races. They gained such a big advantage over their rivals, that they did not start in the last race. During their absence the sixth race was won by crew Adam Skomski / Jakub Kopy³owicz aboard Exploder 18 catamaran, who moved up to the third position in the general classification. The second place went to Jacek Noetzel and Marcin Strzy¿ewski and the leaders are of course the Dutch team Coen de Koning / Jeroen van Leeuwen.
There was a change in Piotr Chomicz's team, and Waldemar Wieczorek was replaced by Agnieszka Chomicz. Unfortunately the catamaran, which broke the mast during the first offshore race from ¦winouj¶cie to Mielno, had rigging problems today as well. Problems with the mast did not allow Piotr Chomicz and his daughter to finish the fourth race, and the repairs took so long, that they did not manage to participate in fifth race.
